Precision Stainless Steel Materials

Stainless steel is currently used in a wide range of industrial fields, including telecommunications devices, automotive and light electrical related, and will continue to be an indispensible material for cutting-edge industries.
Iwatani has a long history of handling stainless steel, and as a primary trading company (distributor) for various manufacturers we offers a full range of not only general-purpose stainless steel but also stainless steels with various special characteristics.

Product Characteristics
Stainless steel for springs Possesses the strong, work-hardened characteristics of austenitic stainless steel. Representative types are 301, 304 and 631, and they can be order-made to a designated level of hardness.
Ultrathin stainless steel Ultrathin foils of a variety of steel types, including 301, 304, 430 and 631, can be manufactured down to thicknesses of 8μ.
Stainless steel for etching The flatness of these steels has been increased by tension annealing, making them ideal for etching.
Surface-treated stainless steel The usability in design and functionality of these steels is increased through surface treatments, such as electrolytic and chemical polishing.
Non-magnetic stainless steel These steels maintain their non-magnetism even after undergoing harsh cold forming processes.
Stainless steel for gaskets The crystal grain of these steels has been refined, improving fatigue resistance characteristics while maintaining a high degree of elasticity.
High-strength stainless steel We offer cold formed stainless steels with hardness of HV530 and above, and precipitation hardened stainless steels with a high level of strength obtained through heat treatment after forming.
Stainless steel for car moldings These steels have superior reflectivity to conventional BA, and although ferritic maintain corrosion resistance on par with that of 304 (austenitic) steel.

Pure Nickel and Nickel Alloy Materials

Because of its superb corrosion resistance to caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) and other alkaline solutions, and its superior conductivity, pure nickel is used in all manner of battery parts and in-car electronic components.
Iwatani has a large share for nickel used in lithium-ion battery applications, and supplies it to customers both in Japan and overseas.

Permalloy for electrical current sensors Permalloy has high magnetic permeability and low retention, making it suitable as the core for various sensors, such as torque sensors and current sensors, and for magnetic shielding.
Hastelloy, Inconel, Incoloy, Monel These nickel alloys have increased heat and corrosion resistance achieved by the addition of large quantities of molybdenum or chromium etc.
Corrosion and heat resistant alloys We offer various Ni alloys that are resistant to seawater, alkalis and highly oxidizing substances etc., according to the application for which they are to be used.
Low thermal expansion alloys We have a variety of Fe/Ni based low-thermal expansion alloys.

Copper is a reddish-brown colored lustrous metal, and is widely adopted for springs and various electrical and electronic components such as wiring parts and cabling, due to the advantages of its high electrical conductivity (the highest after silver) and its comparatively high thermal conductivity.
Iwatani offers a full range of copper materials, limited not only to oxygen-free copper (OFC), tough pitch copper (TPC) and brass, but also other materials with various special characteristics.

Product Characteristics
Copper foil for FPC Achieves superior sliding and bendability characteristics, low-rebound (memory), flexibility and vibration resistance, through the alignment of the orientation of its crystals by enlarging the crystal grain size.
High-strength, highly conductive Corson alloys Corson alloys are special copper alloys that contain mainly Ni and Si as their secondary constituents, and have superior strength, electrical conductivity and workability for bending.
High-strength Cu-Ni-Sn alloys These special copper alloys contain mainly Ni and Si as their secondary constituents, and have superior high-strength and stress relaxation characteristics.
Strength can be even higher through aging effect.
Copper-titanium alloys These materials are special copper alloys containing mainly Ti as the secondary constituent, and rival beryllium copper in terms of their strength, stress relaxation characteristics and workability for bending.
High-strength phosphor bronze for springs This material has superior spring/elasticity and fatigue characteristics to regular phosphor bronze, achieved by miniaturizing its crystal grain size by the addition of trace amounts of Ni.

Aluminum and Aluminum Alloy Materials

Aluminum is easy to use because it is lightweight (specific gravity 2.7) in comparison to other metals, and has soft, easily workable properties. Because of these characteristics it is adopted for a wide range of applications, from casings for devices such as cellphones, tablets and personal computers to the chassis and frames etc. of cars, high-speed trains (shinkansen) and aircraft. Iwatani offers not only general-purpose aluminum, but also a variety of aluminum materials to match the required purpose, including electrical/electronic related and automotive related applications.

High-quality aluminum for alumite
(anodic oxide coating)
Reduces the patchiness that occurs after anodizing, achieving a consistent coloring.
6000 series aluminum for machine casings/housings/enclosures This aluminum places an emphasis on formability, yet has strength equal to or above that of the 5000 series.
Highly conductive aluminum The non-conductive coating of this aluminum contains metallic filler, and has high conductivity and resistance to fingerprints.
High-gloss aluminum An aluminum alloy with superior reflectivity. Various levels of sheen and reflectivity can be selected.
High-strength, highly formable aluminum This aluminum has levels of pull strength and load earing strength close to that of cold-rolled steel. It also has a low level of anisotropy, and can be formed into complex shapes.
Aluminum for heat exchangers Brazing sheet with superior brazability, formability and corrosion resistance.
Surface-treated foil for aluminum electrolytic capacitors This treated foil uses high-purity aluminum treated by chemical conversion coating and etching.

Product Characteristics
Clad metal materials These are materials made by bonding together different metals. Adiverse variety of combinations are possible.
Precious metals We supply a variety of precious metals, including Gold (Au), Silver (Ag), Platinum (Pt) and Palladium (Pd).
Titanium and titanium alloys Despite its light weight (with specific gravity of 4.51) pure titanium has the strength of regular steel, while titanium alloys are as strong as high-tensile steel sheet.
Magnesium Magnesium is the lightest of all practical-use metals, with superior specific strength and rigidity.
Amorphous metals/alloys Amorphous metals have a non-crystalline structure, have high magnetic permeability despite their high saturation magnetic flux density, and display excellent low loss soft-magnetic characteristics.

Product Characteristics
Plating Materials plated with various metal sand by various methods, such as Au, Ag, Ni, Sn and Sn reflow soldering.
Pre-coating We can pre-coat various materials in strip (coil) form including various types of stainless steel, and alloys of aluminum, nickel and copper.
All types of polishing We offer various types of polishing including No.4, #400 buff, #800 buff and HL.
Resin coating We can add various characteristics such as friction resistance, slickness, water repellency and electrical characteristics.
Composite processing We can combine various processes such as cladding, plating and pre-coating.
